Sex differences in depression from an evolutionary perspective

Dear prospective participant,

My name is Nicola Olive, I am currently conducting a piece of research for my masters degree at the University of Central Lancashire under the supervision of Dr. Gayle Brewer. The aim of the research is to provide a basis for further research into sex differences in depression and to examine the role of factors such as risk-taking.

If you are aged between 18 and 35 and would like to participate in the study, you will be asked to answer a questionnaire. This should take no longer than 30 minutes. The questions in this questionnaire booklet will include questions about your mood and so may be distressing. Please do not participate if you feel that this would be upsetting. Should you feel distressed in any way, I have provided contact details for support agencies at the end of this questionnaire. In addition to this, there is also a link to the contact details of the same support agencies at the bottom of each page. Clicking on this will not interfere with your responses

In addition, some personal information is requested (e.g. ethnicity) and I recommend that you complete the following questionnaire alone. These background questions are included as I would like to obtain a wide sample that represents the wider population. There will also be questions regarding your use of drugs and history of mental illness. To maintain anonymity, please do not put your name anywhere on this questionnaire. I would like to inform you that if you wish to participate in this research you may withdraw from the research up until you have returned the questionnaire. As identifiable information is not required, your data cannot be removed once your answers have been submitted.

Individual responses will only be seen by myself (researcher), Dr. Gayle Brewer (supervisor), and possibly course examiners.

I would like to remind you that participation in this research is completely voluntary.

To give consent to participating in this research simply click submit at the end of your completed questionnaire.

If you have any questions about the study before agreeing to take part please contact the researcher or supervisor (details below).
